“Introduction to Lettering Script” – Applicable to tattoos and design

By Marcelo Pellizo/Peyi

This workshop is oriented to designers and tattoo artists who want to improve their decorative lettering drawing skills. With “lettering” we refer to drawing letters, a trade associated to the work of sign painters, whether as a job or as a means of recreation.

This workshop offers an incremental approach to letter drawing, allowing students to lose fear of manual typographic composition, and is designed

specially for those who work with typography as designers of any area, tattoo artists, make-up artists, illustrators, etc. Previous knowledge of lettering or calligraphy is not a requirement.

Concepto Cero is a 7-year-old record label. They have published more than 20 records and worked with more than 30 musical projects and 30 visual artists and designers. From the very beginning, identity and visuals was a priority, from flyers to packaging.  Throughout this long journey, they have created around 500 graphic pieces, flyers, covers, stickers, t-shirts, posters, etc. What’s more, in the last 5 years, due to different reasons, they have worked and assessed more than 40 record labels from Argentina and Latin America.

The workshop will be presented by Nicolás Madoery, Director and Founder of Concepto Cero, Co-director of 432 Hertzios, and member of Recalculando program (2012-2015) and of #GuiaRec (Musicians Management Tool Guide); Martin Mena, Co-director of 432 Hertzios and Coordinator of Recalculando program (2012-2015) and #GuiaRec; and Emmanuel Orezzo, Designer for Concepto Cero and 432 Hertzios, who has designed multiple record covers, as well as the image for film festivals and other events.

What is it?

The Game of the Record Label is a collective creation of a record label where participants will come up with the name, the logo, the artists, the editorial line and the visual identity, the hashtags, the audience, the scene… EVERYTHING!

It’ like a “Choose Your Own Adventure” for the different record label models that exist today and a collective search for identity. Netlabels, Indie Labels, Independent Labels, Collective Management Labels, Boutique Labels and Majors are some of the models that we can find today in the industry, which changes every year.

Participants will have 3 hours to start from scratch, make questions and complete a record label that represents and engages them. Will they be successful?

This workshop is a place to think about the identity work that Concepto Cero has been developing and to assess other collectives and labels.

Ulises Conti - Walking and Listening

Ulises Conti1

Saturday 15 – 10 a.m.

Cancelled in case of rain.

Duration: 45 min approx. The workshop will finish when participants return to the meeting point.

Walking and Listening is a silent group walk through the city whose main goal is to generate a focus on listening to the sounds around us. This project was born from curiosity about sound and how we relate through sound with all the different aspects of life. We will begin this sound search leaving aside

all types of preconceptions, considering all sounds as a potential musical material and listening to sounds that we had never paid attention to before.

Most of us go through life with our ears virtually shut. Through freedom of exploration of the auditory landscapes that surround us, our perception of sound will grow exponentially and we will be able to expand the meaning of the word music by activating a process which is inverse to that of composition. It’s not about saying things through sound, but about listening what sounds have to say to us.

This project was first carried out in May 2015 in Bremen, Germany, where several walks were held during one week. The activities were organized by

Flau Records, a Japanese record label, and Otero Gallery, which, at the same time, was showing an exhibition of the tour’s map-music sheets in Buenos Aires. Two walks were held this year, during April in Buenos Aires (for the first time), and during June in London.

Ulises Conti: Bio

Ulises Conti was born in Buenos Aires in 1975 and is one of the most prolific

Argentinean composers and sound artists of his generation. His music doesn’t rest in any specific genre. He has a long list of collaborations in the

interdisciplinary fields, both in plastic arts and cinema and in theatre. In 2008, he was part of Performing America’s Project, an art residence. In 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2015 he was invited to work with different German institutions: Kammerspiele Munich, HAU Berlin and Theater Bremen, respectively. He has presented projects in different cities in America, Asia and Europe in some of the most prestigious museums, galleries and festivals. His sound installations and interventions are part of national and international catalogues, whose highlights include the audiotour Los animales perdidos (2008), where the participants engaged in a night walk to search for an unknown car; Pequeños conciertos para un espectador (2011), which includes one musician and one spectator; the performance conference El piano invisible (2013); and Caminar y escuchar (2015), a silent walk where a group of participants take a specific tour while listening to the sound landscape. Mansalva editions published his first book, En Auckland ya es mañana (2011), and La cinta transportadora (2015), an essay book which compiles personal projects and collaborative projects with other artist. He has released nine records and is the director of Metamúsica, a record label, where he produces and releases his own records and those of other composers. In 2013, Japanese label Flau Records published Atlas 2003 – 2013, an anthology that includes his best records and Los griegos creían que las estrellas eran pequeños agujeros por donde los dioses escuchaban a los hombres (2014). He visited different cities throughout Japan where he gave lectures, directed workshops and performed concerts.
